Responsibilities.
Hand pack egg cartons into appropriate shipping containers based on customer requirements, such as boxes, plastic or wire baskets, carts, etc.
- Coordinate as part of a team to ensure maximum product line flow.
- Responsible for two or more lines. Assist other packers in their work when their line is not busy.
- Communicate verbally with the production team regarding order progress and quantities needed, and communicate any problems with eggs or packaging.
- Packs and palletizes bulk eggs on skids.
- Check appearance and date of packages.
- Prepare materials and make boxes for packing.
- Accurately count the number of boxes, baskets, carts, and skids.
- Ensure established biosecurity procedures are followed.
- Gently pack eggs into designated containers as instructed by machine operator.
- Keep broken, damaged, or adulterated product out of the packaging area.
- Guarantee that all bundling materials satisfy organization guidelines.
- Report any machine malfunctions immediately to the machine operator or supervisor.
- Check dates frequently to ensure they read correctly.
- Inform the machine operator when to count off product.
- Have truck personnel replenish supplies (baskets, skids, boxes, etc.) as needed.
- Keep machine parts and work area clean, neat, and free of hazards.
- Assist co-workers when and where needed.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Check scales, crack detectors, rollers, shelves, and visible surfaces for debris before entering the grading booth.
- Ensure that both glass/mirrors in the grading booth are clean and that all guards are in place.
- Remain in the grader booth at all times unless otherwise instructed by supervisor….
- Press the lot button at the correct time.
- Be aware of lot changes (including egg size and quality).
- Remove all dirt from the grader if the dirt detector is not activated.
- During the operation, feel the eggs to make sure they are warm and relatively dry.
- The grader should inform the machine operator of eggs that need to be pregraded or that the machine speed must be reduced.
- Be alert for unfamiliar sounds or machine conditions that may affect egg quality and notify the supervisor or machine operator if you spot any.
- Start the machine as soon as the green light comes on or the beeper sounds (unless otherwise instructed by the supervisor or machine operator).
- Report to the Supervisor if the eggs are in poor condition (frozen, rodent, rotten, excessively dirty, etc.).
- All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Skills.
- The best candidate for this position will have general experience working well in a team environment.
- While not required, production experience is helpful.
